What's In the Bible-week 15

Ok, so we took a few weeks off of this, but we are back in with the New Year.  This week we watched Volume 2, 2nd lesson and focused on the book of Exodus.
The map I found here and reduced it. Moses map
Moses flap book (I reduced it a bit to fit)
tabernacle lapbook-I made this a tri-fold book to get all the pieces on.
The images I used for the 10 commandments were purchased from What's In the Bible Pentateuch Activity Book but, there are many free images you could substitute.  I use other parts of the activity book later, so it was worth the 3.99.  The image I used on the front was one that I found on the internet, but I can't find it to link it, but any would work.

What's in the Bible-week 9

We watched Volume 2, Episode 1 again, and focused on the question "How were the books of the Bible picked?

What's in the Bible-week 8 (we skipped week 6 & 7)

This week our focus was on Patriarchal history because it tied in with what we were doing in history this week.  We watched Volume 2-episode 1.  This is an interesting lesson because it spends a lot of time discussing how the Bible was put together.  We will focus more on this next week, but we focused on the 2nd part of the lesson.  I made a pop-up family tree.  I just free-handed the tree and folded it in.  I used the cute printables found here.  I printed them 80%.  If you printed them really small you could probably fit all the brothers on as well. I also took a screen shot of the map from the dvd and we traced the route that Abraham went when he left Ur.  This tied in perfectly with our history studies!
I reduce the coloring pages from the 2nd half of Genesis to make a little mini-coloring book that reviews the main stories in this section of the Bible.
I wanted to highlight the Abrahamic covenant, and this was our copywork for this week.

What's in the Bible-week 5

There was so many little things to do for the Genesis primeval history page that we spend another week on that.

What's in the Bible-week 4

This week we watched Volume 1 episode 2 again, with a focus on Primeval History (Genesis 1-11).  (Don't miss the Bentley Brothers singing about Genesis!)  I had fun with this page as I scoured the internet to find interactive foldables to put on this page.  When I first thought up this book, I didn't know I was going to blog, so I didn't save all the websites where I "borrowed" ideas.  I will try and find them all and link them, but my apologies if I can't find something anymore.  Just know that 99% of my ideas came from others more creative than myself. This week we just did the first page-primeval history.

Note: I counted back 66 pages from the back of the book (one two page spread for each book of the Bible) because I wanted to leave the front pages for all the extras.  I know I'll have blank pages, but that's OK.

  • Days of creation accordian foldable-You will get lost in delight with the creativity on this website!  I reduced this by 50%
  • Adam and Eve printable-I printed these in color at 30% and laminated them.  I used mini-velcro so the clothes could come off and on.  I'm kind of obsessed with how cute these little felt printables are!!  Check our the other ones on the website too.
  • Noah flood wheel-Lots of great resources on this sight too.  I printed this at 50% and put it onto cardstock.
  • Tower of babel inpiration
  • I also reduced p. 10-15 in the What's in the Bible coloring book about 30%  and made a mini-coloring book that tell the stories Genesis 1-11.

What's in the Bible-week 3

This week we watched Volume 1, episode 2.  We focused on the idea of who wrote the Bible.  I'll be honest, I did most of the work on this page.  The boys helped me glue and did their copywork.
I used the same coloring page and reduced it 70% and cut open each tiny book and wrote the author of the book (if known).  I cut out the word "inspired" in fun letters and put it on a small piece of accordion folded paper so it would pop up.  I did the same with "God Breathed"  Our copywork was II Timothy 3:16.

What's In the Bible-Week 2

We watched Volume 1-Episode 1 again.  We will usually watch the same episode twice because I like them to get very familiar with the songs.  The songs in the What's in the Bible series are amazing! I've even added a couple of them to our memory work.  This week our focus was on the different sections of the Bible.  I reduced the books of the Bible coloring pages (75%) and put flaps out of cardstock representing the different sections of the Bible.

Week 1-What's in the Bible

I am absolutely CRAZY about the What's in the Bible series created by Phil Vischer, but I couldn't find many homeschooling resources using them.
So, I decided to pair my love of interactive notebooks (I used standard composition notebooks) with the videos and make my own.  It is a work in progress, but I'm going to try and post pictures of what I'm doing each week in the hopes that someone else may find it helpful.  Almost none of the creative ideas are my own-just hours of scouring the internet for cute ideas.  My goal is to link back to the original site of any ideas I borrowed, but I didn't know I was going to post these when I started so I didn't save all the websites I used.  So, I'll do my best!

I did purchase the What's in the Bible coloring book, but I think you can get all the coloring pages for free on their website.

The first week we colored the What's in the Bible coloring page.  On my book, I reduced it and put it on the first page.  On the boys book, I made this the cover.
1. We watched Volume 1, episode 1
2. Colored the cover page.
3. Copy work in the little Bible about what the Bible is. (see pictures)  Here is a link to how I made the small book.
I did all the cutting and folding for my boys because they are 1st grade (and not great with fine motor skills yet) but an older child could do all this part himself.  I also included one of our Bible doctrine verses (What is the theme of the Bible)

I ended up changing the first page a little for the boys' books because I wanted that coloring page to be on the cover.  Here is a picture of my cover, and Luke's cover (Levi's isn't finished yet).  I put packing tape on top to protect it and make it shiny.
I also made the Bible book bigger for their books so that they could have a little more room to write in them.  Here is a sample of the pages.
