What's in the Bible-week 8 (we skipped week 6 & 7)

This week our focus was on Patriarchal history because it tied in with what we were doing in history this week.  We watched Volume 2-episode 1.  This is an interesting lesson because it spends a lot of time discussing how the Bible was put together.  We will focus more on this next week, but we focused on the 2nd part of the lesson.  I made a pop-up family tree.  I just free-handed the tree and folded it in.  I used the cute printables found here.  I printed them 80%.  If you printed them really small you could probably fit all the brothers on as well. I also took a screen shot of the map from the dvd and we traced the route that Abraham went when he left Ur.  This tied in perfectly with our history studies!
I reduce the coloring pages from the 2nd half of Genesis to make a little mini-coloring book that reviews the main stories in this section of the Bible.
I wanted to highlight the Abrahamic covenant, and this was our copywork for this week.

Story of the World-week 8

This week we learned about the History of Israel and told the familiar stories of Abraham and Joseph.  The only extra books this week were our Children's Story Bible.  We had fun making our "coat of many colors."

Story of the World-week 7

This week we studied about the Sumerians.  There weren't a ton of extra books, but we read

We did two projects-one using the geometric patterns that the Mesopotamians used to decorate their temples.  They were also known for their seals.  Rather than making our own seals we went with stamps on playdough.

Story of the World-Week 6

This is one of the best weeks in Ancient History!  Mummies and Pyramids.  We read Ch 4 in Story of the World, wrote narrations, did map work and drew a picture of the Sphinx.

Science-week 5

We studied about camels this week.  We made shades to represent the bones in a camel's eyes that shade their eyes from the sun.  We also did an experiment that shows why it is important for a camel to have large (sometimes dinner plate sized) hooves.

Story of the World-Week 5

We read Story of the World, chapter 3, did the coloring page (sort of), completed the map and a narration.  We read a few extra books this week.

There are so many fun projects to do in this time period!!  I bought one of those kits to make papyrus,  and, despite the fact that it looks OK in this picture, it didn't hold together at all.  But, the kit came with 2 pieces of papyrus that did hold together, so we'll be adding that to the notebook after we write on it with berry juice.  Time got away from us, and we didn't get to that yet.

Next, we made cuneiform tablets.  Levi's looks pretty good, but, as usual, Luke has his own idea of how he wants to do a project, and it usually has very little to do with what I want him to do.  :-)  The girls' tablets looked beautiful!  We also had a hieroglyphic stamp set, which was fun.
