We studied about the Minoans. We watched a short video on modern Bull jumping. We built our own labyrinth out of blocks. We exploded a volcano because the Minoans possibly left Crete because of a nearby volcano! It was the world's worst science kit! The paints were dried out and the chemical reaction didn't work. But, we added some baking soda and vinegar.

Story of the World-week 18
This week we studied about the Assyrians again. They were back with a vengeance! King Ashurbanipal collected books to make the first library, but they also used new weapons to destroy the city of Nineveh and other cities. We built siege towers out of legos and made our own books to put into the library. This week we also read books about Jonah, since this was probably the time when he was alive.
We read:
This was a darling book about Jonah and the whale. The boys got a kick out of it!
Story of the World-week 17
This week we studied about the Phoenicians. They were known for their commerce and their trading of expensive good. The boys loved that they made purple die out of snails and that it stunk. "You stink like a man from Tyre" became a popular insult.
We made purple die out of blueberries and died pasta and string to make necklaces.

What's In the Bible-week 15
Ok, so we took a few weeks off of this, but we are back in with the New Year. This week we watched Volume 2, 2nd lesson and focused on the book of Exodus.
The map I found here and reduced it. Moses map
Moses flap book (I reduced it a bit to fit)
tabernacle lapbook-I made this a tri-fold book to get all the pieces on.
The images I used for the 10 commandments were purchased from What's In the Bible Pentateuch Activity Book but, there are many free images you could substitute. I use other parts of the activity book later, so it was worth the 3.99. The image I used on the front was one that I found on the internet, but I can't find it to link it, but any would work.
What's in the Bible-week 9
We watched Volume 2, Episode 1 again, and focused on the question "How were the books of the Bible picked?
Story of the World-Week 15-chapter 13
This week we studied about the New Kingdom (Golden Age) of Egypt. We learned about King Tut and Queen Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh that dressed like a boy and wore a fake beard. We read:
We decided we would try our own beards for disguises!
Story of the World-week 14-Chapter 12
This week we learned about the Middle Kingdom of Egypt. The focus of this was the Hyksos people, (from Canaan) who conquered the Egyptians with new weapons (swords and bows) and chariots pulled by horses.
Story of the World-Week 13 Chapter 11
This week we studied Ancient Africa. We made paper beads (and looked at some real paper beads that a friend brought me from Africa). We also made a spider since we read about the trickster Anansi, the Spider.
I wonder which one was Lukes, and which one was Levi's!! :-)
Story of the World-Week 10 Chapter 8
This week we studied about The Assyrians and Shamshi-Adad. We answered questions, wrote narrations, and completed the map. We also read the story of Gilgamesh. The only project that we did this week was to talk about fairy tales and tell our own fairy tales.
Story of the World-Week 11 Chapter 9
This week we studied about The Assyrians and how they built out of clay. We built our own Mohenjo-Daro.
